Examples of Texture Stimulus Displays

The texture display type was the same as tested by Cook et al. (1995) in their Same-Different experiment. Its inclusion permitted direct comparison between the current study and that previous one. Like before, the Same displays consisted of the repetition of a single element throughout the 24 x 16 array. In the Different displays, an 8 x 7 region of contrasting elements (differing in color or shape) was randomly located within this larger display. The identity of the eight colors and eight shapes used to make these displays were randomized from trial to trial. These are very close to the size shown to the pigeons.
